Hello! I am Kim Winter, and I trade under the name of Flextiles. My aim is to bring a little piece of the natural world into busy modern lives.
My art is not only inspired by the forms and processes of nature - I often use natural materials in my work, transforming sheep's fleece into felt, weaving old leaves into organic forms, or dyeing with home-grown indigo.
Upcycling plays a big part in what I do, as I turn discarded and unwanted garments and accessories into original, one-off pieces using shibori and ecoprinting. Extending the life of a garment by an extra nine months reduces its environmental impact by 20-30%.
I also run workshops on felting, indigo shibori, and ecoprinting, helping others to learn the joys of these wonderful techniques.
